How many of us take our health for granted? Do most of us assume it is going to be there and ailments are something that will affect others instead? For some odd reason we believe that we’re okay until that day when you find out that you are sick. It is a horrible feeling to deal with, to be honest, being diagnosed with any disease. It would be nice if we had an engine warning light like a car that comes on in the event there is an issue and you can get it fixed before it becomes a bigger problem. Let us use the analogy of a car, if you want to save on money do you fill the tank half full of gas and the other half with water, after all, your gas gauge will still say it is full and your good to go, right? You will soon find out that it could be a disaster move on your part and a costly one as well.
Why do we load our bodies with highly process foods, GMO extenders, fillers, process sugars, fake meats, and whatever products out there they called food. What is your idea of real food? The rates of colitis, IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome), crohn’s and even new disorders are results of this movement to make our food cheaper and easier all for the bottom line. Just look at the cancer rates that have soared in the last 50 years, which I am sure it is just a coincidence that these highly processed GMO foods, high in processed sugar and salt, became popular around this time as well. There could not possibly be any correlation or so we are told. However, before the 1900’s around 1 in 60 was diagnosed with cancer and now 1 in 2, so that makes me ask the question. What has changed?
We all know the answers to that question and it does not require a scientific study for what is staring us in the face. For many who are old enough to remember that smoking cigarettes were considered safe in the 1930s and 50’s and we were told there was no scientific evidence that suggested otherwise. If fact, if you do some research you will find it was doctor recommend to smoke a fresh cigarette at that time after all your doctor knows best. Do you see any similarities today with the big pharmaceutical companies, sounds like the same playbook to me!
If you read my other articles you will know how dramatically eating healthy has changed my life. This brings me to the point of this post, beans are an unrated super food. The hero of the food world that gets a bad rap for a lot of reasons that just don’t make sense. Many will say they make me gassy or I have to go to the bathroom more. That is because you’re full of manure and it is not healthy to be hanging out in your bowels rotting for days, you need fiber to clean it out to be healthy. If you don’t have a stool movement each day, where do you think it is going? It is sitting in your intestine rotting up a storm.
The benefits of eating beans are numerous and this is why Chuck’s Bean Burgers exist in the first place.
So what is fiber? Why should I eat more fiber?
- Soluble fiber. This type of fiber dissolves in water to form a gel-like material. It can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels.
- Insoluble fiber. This type of fiber promotes the movement of material through your digestive system and increases stool bulk, so it can be of benefit to those who struggle with constipation or irregular stools. It does not dissolve in water.
What are the benefits of a high fiber diet?
- Normal bowel movements.
- Helps maintain bowel health.
- May lower your risk of developing hemorrhoids and small pouches in your colon (diverticular disease).
- Could lower the risk of colorectal cancer.
- Lowers cholesterol levels.
- Soluble fiber found in beans, oats, flaxseed and oat bran may help lower total blood cholesterol levels by lowering low-density lipoprotein, or bad, cholesterol levels.
- Helps control blood sugar levels.
- Aids in achieving a healthy weight.
- High-fiber foods tend to be more filling, thus you often eat less and stay satisfied longer.
For me to eat more healthy foods was easier said than done. Why? Because often they just don’t taste that great, they do not give you that satisfied full feeling most of us want or desire. Plus we have foolish ideas of what eating well is, most think you need to consume salads all-day or you need to starve yourself. This is so far from the truth and I want to help other understand.
